The Importance of a Supportive Relationship

Matt and I have known each other for 15 years now. It feels like the blink of an eye. Throughout our relationship, we have learned to grow and take each experience as a new lesson. Of course we are human and we both have flaws but we have learned the importance of good communication and unconditional love.

With good communication comes a lot of supporting each other. He is my best friend in every aspect. We are always open and honest, so supporting each other comes easy. We have come to realize that relationships fail or experience more hard times when one or the other does not feel supported. If a person does not feel supported by their significant other they naturally search for it elsewhere and can begin to harbor resentment.

Oddly enough, we recently started a bible study about a stronger marriage. One of the topics was about speaking to each other with love and encouragement. As a partner, we need to be who they look to as a cheerleader and not a critic.
